2024 SDS All-College Team

What a year it was for Saskatchewan baseball products who took their talents south of the border for their collegiate endeavours.

Several took home big awards from their schools and regions, while others captured major conference awards.

We take a look back at the top performances with our first annual SDS All-College Team.

Being the Culture

It is shaping up to be an experience the Regina Dusters won’t soon forget.

Created in 2020 to help give kids the chance to play baseball for a while longer, the Dusters have traveled to Las Vegas and Arizona for winter tournaments in the past.

But nothing will compare to what they have planned when the board the plane for Cuba in February 2025.

He had already earned the title “Mr. Hockey” for his work on the ice.

But Gordie Howe easily could’ve added the nickname “The Natural” for how he competed on the ball diamond, at the golf course and even in the bowling alley.

Such was the immense talent of the man who had broad enough shoulders to carry such accomplishments.

Some of the stories associated with his time in baseball are as legendary as his exploits at the rink.

When Aidan Marien isn’t collecting hits on the diamond, he is delivering them on the gridiron.

WCBL Well-Represented on All-Canadian College Teams

The Canadian Baseball Network’s All-Canadian College Teams have been announced and Western Canadian Baseball League players figure prominently among the selections.

The annual release of Canada’s top college baseball players by the national network has been taking place for a quarter century and CBN founder Bob Elliott unveiled the final picks for 2024 recently.

The Western Canadian Baseball League has introduced its first-ever Rural Roots Game in 2025.

To be held on June 8, the Sylvan Lake Gulls will face the Lethbridge Bulls in Oyen, Alberta.

Dominant John Donaldson

He was, in his prime, the best pitcher in the world.

In a playing career that covered more than three decades, John Donaldson traveled to hundreds of cities across North America, where he collected 413 wins and recorded 5,081 strikeouts.

Donaldson struck out more than 500 batters in three straight years and he registered 14 no-hitters, including one that dazzled baseball watchers in Saskatchewan.

WCBL Unveils 2025 Schedule

The Western Canadian Baseball League has unveiled its 2025 schedule, with the season starting May 28.

After a few special stops along the way, the circuit’s regular season will close out August 4.

Puhl Hall

Terry Puhl had a long and successful Major League Baseball career, but the highlight of his journey in the game ended up coming more than 30 years after his retirement.

WCBL Attendance Continues to Climb

Attendance figures in the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) are up significantly this year, according to recently released rankings from Ballpark Digest.

The Saskatoon Berries led the Saskatchewan teams in attendance, finishing in 32nd across all summer collegiate ball clubs.
