Year of the Snakes

For 19 years, the Saskatoon Diamondbacks have felt snakebitten.

They have had good seasons in the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League, including making it to the final in 2024, but haven’t been able to capture the circuit’s biggest prize.

They changed that this summer and are now heading to nationals in Fort McMurray.

When you’re among the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League leaders in almost every offensive category, it’s only a matter of time before people start to take notice.

Saskatoon Diamondbacks utilityman Casey Rauckman found himself in that position after posting a .429 batting average to go along with a .741 slugging percentage, 1.252 on-base percentage, five home runs and 28 runs batted in.

Honey for the Cubs

As Reese Brons crossed home plate to score the winning run to claim the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League title, there was an audible sigh of relief from the Saskatoon Cubs dugout.

And then … pandemonium as the celebration began.

After being knocked out in the semi-finals of the past two seasons, the Cubs were able to take the monkey off their backs in a big way with a 12-2 win over the Regina White Sox.
