The pipeline from Saskatchewan to the U.S. college ranks remains filled with top-notch talent.
As we take a look back at 2025, it was great to see so many athletes from our province contributing in meaningful ways to their respective programs south of the border.
From large NCAA Division I schools to the smallest of junior colleges, the accomplishments were many.

We have once again sorted through all of the statistics and box scores to reflect on the best performances of the 2025 college season to present you our second annual SDS All-College Team.
Catcher – Casey Prychak – Saskatoon
Making the move from Otero Junior College to Wayne State College didn’t seem to faze Casey Prychak. After hitting .277 with a home run, 14 runs batted in and 15 runs scored for the Rattlers in 2024, the Saskatoon native actually improved in many statistical categories, posting a .256 average with two roundtrippers, 18 RBI and 24 runs scored in 50 games. Behind the plate, the sports management major made just four errors to collect a .988 fielding percentage.
First Base – Cory Wouters – Saskatoon
A Canadian Baseball Network All-Canadian First Team, Cory Wouters cleaned up in every sense of the word in 2025. The McCook Community College utilityman was outstanding at the plate, hitting .437 with 20 doubles, two triples, 20 home runs and setting the team’s record for RBI with 96. A National Junior College Athletic Association Division I All-American, the Saskatoon native and Going Yard Academy alum also went 4-3 in nine appearances on the mound, striking out 51 batters in just over 40 innings of work.
Second Base – Tyler Vanneste – Warman
Determined to leave it all out on the field in his senior season at California State University – San Bernardino, Tyler Vanneste put together a fantastic spring. The kinesiology major posted a .342 batting average to go along with nine doubles, five dingers, six stolen bases and 45 RBI in 48 games. He was also strong on the defensive side of the ball, collecting a .949 fielding percentage.
Third Base – Payton McHarg – Saskatoon
It was going to be tough replicating the 2024 season that Payton McHarg had, where he re-wrote the Washburn University record books with a 21-homer season to go along with a .354 batting average and 67 RBI. The Going Yard grad still put together a great season to earn a spot on the SDS All-College Team with a line of .301/13 homers/44 RBI in 53 games. McHarg’s performance earned him accolades with the All-MIAA Second Team, All-MIAA All-Tournament Team, and the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
Shortstop – Nathan Houston – Regina
If you needed a stolen base during the 2025 baseball season, Nathan Houston was your thief. The Martin Academy alum was among the top three Canadians across the college ranks in swipes with 41 in 42 attempts, and followed up his excellent freshman season at Arizona Western College by hitting .368 with 15 doubles, three home runs and 38 RBI in 55 games. He earned Second Team All-ACCAC honors for the work he put in, as well as a commitment to Louisiana Tech University.
Outfield – Carter Beck – Carnduff
The buzz around Carter Beck continues to grow, especially after a standout first-year performance with Indiana State University. Highly touted after his freshman season at the University of Mary, Beck delivered in every way by being named to the Missouri Valley Conference First Team and the Scholar-Athlete First Team, posting a .338 batting average with 11 bombs, 56 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 56 games. He was also stellar defensively with a .971 fielding percentage.
Outfield – Kleysen Gabruck – Martensville
There was no sophomore slump for Kleysen Gabruck. The Williston State College Tetons utilityman, who spent time in the infield and outfield, may have seen his batting average drop from .364 to .341 in his second year, but he added some pop to his bat by hitting four homers (up from zero in 2024) and driving in 37 runs (up from 27) and stole 15 bases during the season (up from nine). Gabruck’s performance earned him an All Mon-Dak Conference selection.
Outfield – Ethan Murdoch – Swift Current
After struggling in his first season with Marshall University, Ethan Murdoch found his power stroke early in 2025. The Swift Current native hit two home runs in the Herd’s first game of the season against Hawaii and never looked back, hitting .261 with 10 home runs and 40 RBI in 58 games, adding nine doubles, two triples and four stolen bases to the mix. He was also flawless in the field
Designated Hitter/Utility – Pacey Phillips – Kerrobert
One of only a handful of first-time SDS All-College Team members, Pacey Phillips shined in his freshman season with the Bismarck State College Mystics. The Kerrobert utilityman earned a .952 fielding percentage despite playing several positions during the course of the spring. At the plate, he was equally impressive, hitting .391 with a home run and 27 RBI in 53 games, also hitting five doubles, three triples and stealing 20 bases.
Pitcher – Kyle Froehlich – Nipawin
It’s been a journey for Kyle Froehlich as he’s pitched for four college teams over his career. He seemingly saved his best pitching performance for last as he suited up as a starter for the University of Texas-Tyler in 2025, going a perfect 10-0 in 15 starts. The Canadian Baseball Network All-Canadian College Third Team member picked up several accolades including the D2 Baseball All-American Third Team, the ABCA/Rawlings First Team All-South Central Region, and the All-Lone Star Conference Second Team, striking out 57 batters in 75+ innings.
Pitcher – Takao Cookson – Regina
Named the North Star Athletic Association Freshman of the Year in 2024, Takao Cookson had some big expectations heading into his sophomore season with Valley City State University. He remained as consistent as you would expect, going 3-2 with a 3.30 earned run average in 11 appearances, including 10 starts. The Regina native also threw two complete games, with one being a fantastic three-hit shutout against Jamestown on April 12, striking out nine batters. He finished with 70 Ks in 60 innings of work.
Pitcher – Gavin Wuschke – Regina
A workhorse for Bellevue University, Gavin Wuschke’s talents were on full display for the Bruins in 2025. The senior righthander earned an All-NSAA Honorable Mention and an NSAA Scholar-Athlete award after starting 14 games during the season, going 8-2 with a 4.63 ERA. His best performance came on Feb. 26 against Hastings, where he allowed just one run on four hits and struck out six (54 on the season) in a 6-2 win.
TAXI SQUAD
As is always the case, there are some performances worthy of recognition despite just missing ending up on the final roster. This year’s taxi squad is made up of first-time SDS All-College Team members who have bright futures heading into 2026.
On the mound, Muenster’s Adam Korte was as solid as they come for the Dawson Community College Buccaneers. He went 6-1 with a 5.05 ERA in 13 appearances, striking out 68 in 67+ innings to be named to the Mon-Dak All-Conference Team.
At the plate, Scott’s Kayden Cey had himself a freshman season to remember with Dakota College at Bottineau. The outfielder posted a .351 batting average with two home runs, 26 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 45 games.
And Bruno’s Cam Marshak impressed in his debut season with Colby Community College. The infielder hit .293 with a homer, 17 RBI and four stolen bases in 27 games. That includes hitting for the cycle in a wild 23-22 loss to McCook on April 1, where Wouters also had hits of all four varieties.
As mentioned, a couple of these athletes were singled out by the Canadian Baseball Network in their annual All-Canadian Teams. If you haven’t already, check out their yearly recognitions here:
