Commending Criseyde

Any athlete will tell you about what an honour it is to represent your home province at a major national championship.

Not many can tell you about what it’s like to do it at three tournaments in a summer.

Such was the case for Criseyde Borthwick as she suited up for Team Saskatchewan at the Baseball Canada 16U, 19U and Women’s Championships in 2026.

From the Vault: John Axford

He’s always been a postseason performer.

Whether he was taking the mound in the Western Major Baseball League (WMBL) or in Major League Baseball (MLB), pitcher John Axford saved his best for when the games mattered the most.

That’s been particularly noticeable when the Ontario-born product represented the Milwaukee Brewers, the team he logged 269 regular season games and 263-plus innings with over six years.

Just Like Old Times

The small community of Muenster had a big hand in the Saskatoon Berries reaching the pinnacle of the Western Canadian Baseball League.

With a population just north of 400, the village is listed as the hometown for three of the team’s busiest pitchers of the 2026 season: Merek Yeager, Adam Korte and Dallen Rude.

Back on the Podium

Carter Beck is a member of the Atlanta Braves.

The Carnduff native and Saskatoon Berries alum didn’t have to wait long during the MLB Draft, as the Braves took him in the first round, 26th overall.

It made him the highest-selected player ever from Saskatchewan.
