It’s time for the “W” in Weyburn to stand for wins.
The Beavers have had a rough few years in the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) and postseason play hasn’t visited the Saskatchewan city of 11,000 people since 2019, which is also the last time that Weyburn had a winning season.
Weyburn will need to bring their best for Opening Week as they start the season with a home-and-home series against the Saskatoon Berries, who set a WCBL single-season wins record in 2025. That four-game series includes a stop in Carnduff, Saskatchewan where the two East Division clubs will square off in the second annual Rural Roots Baseball Classic on May 29th.
The Beavers will also have to finish strong because their final game of the 2026 regular season comes against the defending WCBL champion Regina Red Sox at Currie Field on Aug. 5th.
Let’s examine the roster of hitters and pitchers, as well as the pitching staff and see how things are shaping up for the team this summer.
BATTING
Much of the veteran leadership on the Beavers will be found behind the plate.
Robert Gurney is returning for a fourth season in Weyburn after posting 55 runs, 51 RBI, 81 hits, 14 doubles and six homers in 116 WCBL games. The Campbell River, B.C. native played in 39 games for the Mayville State University Comets, where he was studying business administration, this college season.
Brayden Mayencourt is a versatile player who can chew up innings as a pitcher, frame pitches behind the dish or pluck out grounders from the infield. He has been with the Beavers since 2022 and in 136 games as a batter, Mayencourt has 127 hits, 75 runs, 64 RBI, 23 doubles and 10 long balls. During his occasional trips to the mound as a relief pitcher, he has logged 18 innings over 14 games and picked up 14 strikeouts in those appearances. At Central Baptist College during his junior season, Mayencourt is batting .361 with 46 RBI in 48 games.
His younger brother, Owen Mayencourt, is also back as a catcher after getting into five games with the Beavers in 2025. The Surrey, B.C. product belted a pair of home runs and picked up five runs and five RBI during his brief stint with Weyburn. More recently, he put the finishing touches on his freshman campaign at Big Bend Community College, where he produced 25 RBI in 31 games.
Rounding out the catching options is Anthony Cortese, a senior from Fremont, California who is coming off a terrific season at Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU). In 48 games of NCAA Division 2 play, Cortese had a .353 batting average, 36 runs, 48 RBI, five round trippers and a .438 on-base percentage.
Trevor Dale is a returning infielder from West Valley City in Utah. The righty batter hit .285 in 50 WCBL games last year, while scoring 39 runs, contributing 23 RBI and bashing seven home runs. Dale has suited up in 94 games at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) over the last two seasons, where he was batting .325 with 109 runs, 93 RBI, 35 homers, 11 stolen bases and a .436 on-base percentage.
Nick Miller is one of many ENMU students on the roster. The switch hitting corner infielder and outfielder from Frisco, Texas produced 13 RBI and 10 runs in 26 games this year with the Greyhounds.
Ryan Weaver is teammates with Miller and Cortese at ENMU. The middle infielder is a lefty batter who has scored 12 runs in 28 games this season. He can also play in the outfield.
Fellow Greyhound Gunner Ferguson is a Thorndale, Texas middle infielder and outfielder who is coming off his freshman campaign in the Lone Star Conference. He has five RBI, five hits and four runs in just 10 games played. Ferguson also made one relief appearance.
McPherson College is sending a trio of batters north of the border, including Jared Kramp, Will Sevier and Colt Sussex-Uphold.
Kramp is a 6-foot-2 senior from St. Clair, Michigan who put up a .314 batting average, 93 runs, 77 RBI, 21 homers, 17 doubles and 14 stolen bases for the Bulldogs in 83 games over the last two seasons.
Sevier is a utility player who has taken to the diamond at every position in college. In 41 games with the Bulldogs this year, the Littleton, Colorado senior recorded a .336 batting average, 31 runs, 28 RBI, five round trippers and a .428 on-base percentage. He also made six pitching appearances.
Sussex-Uphold roamed the outfield for McPherson College over the last two seasons. Through 65 games, the Rio Rancho, New Mexico native, who is also a senior, hit .368 with 14 bombs, 68 RBI, 64 runs, nine steals and a .438 on-base percentage.
He’ll be joined in the Tom Laing Park outfield by Hugh Montgomery and Austin Boylan.
Montgomery is a Winnipeg product who can handle all three outfield positions. At Mayville State University, the social science major got on base at a .500 clip while batting .476 in 21 at bats. He converted that time on the base paths into nine stolen bases and 25 runs for the Comets this season.
Boylan also adds to the Canadian content on the roster. The Barrie, Ontario native – who trained with the Ontario Blue Jays and has participated in the Canadian Futures Showcase – is majoring in sport management at North Dakota State University.
Joe Madill swung a hot bat in his 24 games at Cochise College this season. The Nanaimo, B.C. outfielder had a .333 batting average and a .472 on-base percentage in 39 at bats, while scoring 15 runs, producing 14 RBI and stealing five bases during National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) action.
Eli Hansen is an affiliate high school player who got into six games with the Beavers in 2025. Through 16 at bats in the WCBL, the utility player batted .313 with four RBI and three runs. Hansen grew up around the Weyburn Beavers. His grandfather, Garnet, is the team president, while his father, Tyrel, was a star pitcher with the hometown team. Eli will look to take on a bigger role for Weyburn this summer.
Daxtyn Brown also had a cup of coffee with the Beavers last year. The affiliate player, a middle infielder who has signed on at North Dakota State University, appeared in two games and had one at bat and one run scored with Weyburn.
PITCHING
No one pitched in more games for the Beavers last year than Logan Kinter. The righthander from Rio Rancho, New Mexico took the mound in 18 WCBL games and all but one of those appearances came out of the bullpen. In his 39 innings, the ENMU pupil went 4-7 with a 6.00 earned run average (ERA) and 45 strikeouts. Kinter has pitched in 20 games for the Greyhounds over the last three seasons, including three starts.
Kinter is bringing teammate Zach Raichel north to Saskatchewan this summer. The 5-foot-9 right-handed pitcher is coming off his senior season at ENMU, where he has worked mainly as a reliever since 2024. In 28 games and 54.1 innings with the Greyhounds, Raichel has 41 Ks, one save and a 2-4 record.
Local product Keaton Husband was frequently called upon from the bullpen last year. The 5-foot-10 righty appeared in 17 games and went 1-1 with 13 strikeouts in 30 WCBL innings with the Beavers. Husband has spent the last two seasons pitching for Minnesota West Community & Technical College, working as both a starter and a reliever. In 20 games and 80-plus innings, he’s gone 6-6 with five complete games and 77 punchouts.
Josh Pritchard has taken the bump at the University of Wisconsin-Superior for the last three seasons. In his 29 appearances and 112 innings of NCAA Division 3 play, the Surrey, B.C. native has made 20 starts and recorded two complete game shutouts. Pritchard has assembled an 8-7 record with one save and 85 strikeouts.
New to the Weyburn pitching staff in 2026 are Kacey Lindsted, a senior from Kansas at Friends University, and Jackson Sheehy, a native of Guelph, Ontario who is pitching for SUNY Niagara.
Logan Lynch is a 6-foot-1 junior at Reinhardt University. Over his last two years with the Eagles, the Cartersville, Georgia product has made 43 appearances, including 17 starts, while logging 138.2 innings. In that time, Lynch went 9-11 with two saves, a 4.67 ERA and 128 strikeouts.
COACHING
The Beavers are maintaining a consistent approach in their dugout.
Cam Williams is being welcomed back to Tom Laing Park for his fourth season as head coach in 2026.
Williams – who played for the Beavers as a corner infielder and pitcher from 2015 through 2018 and set a number of offensive team records – posted a 16-40 record with Weyburn in 2025. The team finished in fifth place in the East Division and has not qualified for the postseason since 2019.
Williams is also the head coach at the University of Calgary. He led the Dinos to the program’s first ever Canadian College Baseball Conference (CCBC) championship title in 2023.
Joining Williams is Jaxon Henderson, who is taking on the role of pitching coach. The native of Snohomish, Washington appeared in nine games as a right-handed pitcher for the Beavers in 2025.
Assistant coach Avery Kirkup comes to Weyburn as a native of Souris, Manitoba and a Mayville State University alumnus.
Meanwhile, John Prette serves as the play-by-play voice of the Beavers during home games and as the bench coach when the team hits the road.
